Hockey Figures -  NHL Legends Series 2

Wayne Gretzky - Los Angeles Kings Jean Beliveau - Montreal Canadiens Mike Bossy - New York Islanders Grant Fuhr - Edmonton Oilers Phil Esposito - Boston Bruins Wayne Gretzky - Edmonton Oilers

Following on from the succesful launch of this additional range of hockey figures last year, McFarlane Toys have released images of the figures that will make up Series 2 of the NHL Legends line.  This second series should be hitting stores in April 2005 - unaffected by the current lockout.  In addition to these images the Spawn.com website also provides details of the legends to be included in Series 3.

The players represented here in the second set are: Wayne Gretzky in both a Kings and Oilers uniform, Jean Beliveau in the red Canadiens jersey, Mike Bossy of the Islanders, Grant Fuhr of the Oilers and Phil Esposito from the Bruins.  For reference the players set to hit the shelves in November 2005 as part of Series 3 are: another two Wayne Gretzky figures, Tony Esposito, Gilbert Perrault, Marcel Dionne and Pete Mahovlich.

I don’t think anyone will be surprised to see Gretzky represented by two figures in each of the first three series of this Legends line - his impact on the game and the records he holds certainly warrants special attention not to mention the fact that htey are probably the most popular of the figures in this line.  I just hope that those that appear in the third series put him in some of the other team jerseys he has worn such as the Blues or the Rangers.  I know the Kings and Oilers are where he made his name but it would be nice to see his whole career represented.

In terms of this series the images show that McFarlane Toys are keeping up their massively high standards on these figures and also creating new poses rather than rehashing those used on the regular NHL series - something they tend to do within the NHL series over time.  I’ve not been fotunate enough to get my hands on any of the first Legends series but from these pictures and the announcement of the 3rd set nearly a year in advance it looks like this range will continue to go from strength to strength and form a nice companion piece to the modern NHL series.
